SYAMORE CLASS – Fashion (term 6)

From the clothes that we wear to the groups that we belong to, fashion is about how we want others to view us and think about us. It’s also about our tastes – the things that we like and don’t like. By learning about fashion, we are learning about people and society and the things that influence how we, as groups and individuals present ourselves – to our friends, family and communities.

Through the topic Fashion, the class will be designing and creating costumes and merchandise for a theatre production of the play The Tempest. They will be sending these designs and photos of the costumes to the Royal Shakespeare Company. The class will also be exploring the different influences upon fashion and how our clothes have changed over the centuries.

The class book this term is the inspiring story ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was an awesome sword-fighter, a dragon-whisperer and the greatest Viking Hero who ever lived. But, it wasn’t always like that. How did Hiccup become a hero?

The home learning project this term is for the children to plan and create their own original headpiece for our fashion show. The children can use any theme to inspire their headpiece such as a hobby, but it must be wearable.
